Moral and ethical issue in technology

Every action we perform creates a trail of data that may theoretically be captured and saved for later use. For example, one might use pen and paper, an earlier type of information technology, to maintain a comprehensive journal of everything one did and thought throughout the day. It may seem daunting to collect all of this data in this manner, but there is an ever-growing list of technologies and software applications that can assist us in collecting all kinds of data, which can then be aggregated in theory and practice to create a data profile about you, a digital diary with millions of entries.

Workers in the technology industry are constructing the future. With that authority comes the need to create a future that is more free, fair, and affluent than the one we now have. Many IT employees are aware of their responsibilities.

Employees at Google, Facebook, and Amazon, for example, have openly criticized their employers' ethical conduct since 2018.

Technological ethics

Technology ethics is a new field of ethics that emerged as a result of ethical problems emerging from the use of technology in many area of our life, particularly in business.

Technology  ethics is an interdisciplinary field of study that examines the moral and ethical implications of technology in society. It integrates theories and methods.

IT stands for information technology.

At the most basic level, information technology refers to the components that are used to store, retrieve, and modify data, with the server having an operating system. Information technology has a broad range of uses in education, business, health care, industry, finance, and scientific research. With the rapid development of information technology, it is essential to be aware of security concerns, privacy concerns, and the major negative effects of IT. It is critical to identify ethical problems in order to deal with these difficulties in the IT society.

Concerns about ethics:

When there are conflicting goods and competing evils, ethical problems emerge. When it comes to IT, the issue of whether sharing private information inside a company is moral or immoral arises. Companies may utilize computer systems to gather information about people and even exploit that information for their own gain without regard for morality.

Information technologies allow individuals to modify records in a short amount of time, creating concerns about whether the data is accurate or ambiguous. Furthermore, will genetic engineering enhance or degrade the quality of life? These are some of the unresolved ethical problems.

Technology has the potential to cause many innocent people to suffer, which is a moral issue. One such problem is the fact that nuclear technology has the ability to kill a large number of people while also damaging the environment. This issue presents a number of health concerns.

The Internet and social media

Employers understandably want to utilize technology to assist them in screening candidates and verifying facts about their staff. You learnt about the costs of finding, employing, and training workers in the Human Resource Management module. What if, on the other hand, the business thinks that accessing an employee's social media accounts is one of the fastest methods to collect information about them? A business would never ask for your Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or LinkedIn login information.

Conclusion

The elements of technology that pose moral and ethical problems today must be defined and regulated with all parties involved in mind. Situations that need ethical thinking via the study and application of ethical concepts include ethical problems, health difficulties, job displacement, and gender. Any technological development must take into account both humans and the environment.
